Band House choice betting Website

Ann Brown made this Freedom of Information request to Lambeth Living

The request was partially successful.

From: Ann Brown

4 March 2010

Dear Lambeth Living,

What is the average waiting time for those in band H waiting for
social housing? Please break this down i.e 10 people waiting for 2
beds property have waiting time of 10 years. And 3 people waiting
for 2 beds have a waited time 6.
Then list if there British or none British. Please break the
information down into subjects i.e EU, French, Polish and refugees
etc. And how long have they been waited on the Housing list. And
when was housing allocated.

Also provide the average waiting time for the last 2 years and how
many EU and None EU and British are on the waiting list.

Please note under the new government regulation all information on
allocation of housing must be transparent. Failure to supply the
above information will result in me contact the Tenant Service
Authority. Who will be regulating council housing from April 2010.
Simply saying you don’t hold the information does not apply because
you need to regulate people in general that are from the EU have to
wait 3 years before they a allowed housing.

Please note you have yet to update the choice betting website. As
promise by you in my previous request regarding this issue.-

Yours faithfully,

Ann Brown

Dear Ms Brown

I must apologise for the delay in acknowledging this FOI request which has
only now been received by Lambeth Council from Lambeth Living. Please
quote our reference number 132141 in any further correspondence about this
request. We recognise that this should have been answered by 1st April and
will now do our best to provide a reply as soon as possible.

Management of the housing waiting list is a matter for Lambeth Council's
Housing Regeneration and Environment (HRE) Department who place tenants
with either Lambeth Living (LL) or United Residents Housing (URH). LL and
URH are the two main providers of social housing in the borough. Your
request will now be considered by HRE.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request. I am sorry that there has been a delay in responding.

I attach a spreadsheet which shows the length of time applicants in Group H have waited on average for a new home. The table shows average times and you should note that since the introduction of Choice Based Lettings in Lambeth on 30 Apr 08, applicants who bid for fewer properties will generally wait longer than those who bid widely.

There are restrictions on eligibility for social housing based on someone's status in the UK. The Council verifies the status in the UK of everyone offered social housing to confirm their eligibility for housing. We confirm eligibility by inspection of passports and other documents which confirm someone's status in the UK. But we do not record country of birth on our computerised system. Copies of passports and other documents are kept on file, but manually retrieving these records in respect of the people housed to gather the information you request would take longer than 18 hours and the costs involved would be above the appropriate £450 cost limit. I therefore refuse it under the exemption contained in section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. We are therefore unable to answer your question about proportion of people housed who were or were not born in the UK.

Asylum seekers have not been eligible for social housing since 2000, so we can confirm that we have housed no person in the last year who claimed asylum since that date.

I hope this information is useful.
