Bailiff fees unpaid by debtor for council tax recovery

Neil Gilliatt made this Freedom of Information request to Kent County Council

Kent County Council did not have the information requested.

From: Neil Gilliatt

3 May 2011

Dear Kent County Council,

In cases allocated to bailiffs for collection of council tax; do
Kent County Council pay the bailiff their fees for work carried out
by them when the debtor does not because of direct settlement of
the account with the authority?

If compensation to bailiffs is paid by the council due to debtors
not paying bailiffs their fees; what are the annual figures for the
years 2002 to date with respect to this payment?

Yours faithfully,

Neil Gilliatt

Dear Mr. Gilliatt,

Thank you for your request for information regarding the role of bailiffs
in the collection of council tax.

I am afraid that Kent County Council does not hold this information. In
Kent, the 12 district councils and Medway Council, a unitary authority,
are responsible for the administration and collection of council tax , so
you will need to contact them directly.

Please see the following links for information about Council services in
Kent and a list of District Councils.

with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link

our website. Please quote reference FOI/11/0628.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner's website:
