Bacteriophages in tap water

Michael Jozefiak made this Environmental Information Regulations request to Bristol Water Plc

Bristol Water Plc did not have the information requested.

From: Michael Jozefiak

22 August 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

I'd be grateful if you could please tell me:

1) Do you test for bacteriophages in tap water?

2) If the answer to 1) is 'yes', which types of bacteriophage have
been found and in what quantities e.g. ppm?

Yours faithfully,

Mike Jozefiak

Dear Patric,
Many thanks for your information. Should I assume from your reply
that, as bacteriophages are not tested for, they are considered to
be safe for human consumption?

Yours sincerely,

Mike Jozefiak

Dear Mr Jozefiak

Thank you for your further enquiry on bacteriophages. Unfortunately, we
do not have the information to be able to answer this question. You may
be able to get more information on bacteriophages in drinking water from
the Drinking Water Inspectorate, the body which oversees drinking water
quality in England, or the Health Protection Agency, the organisation
responsible for an integrated approach to protecting public health in
the UK. Web links for these organisations are given below.
