Bacteriophage Report copies in the UK
Grace Filby made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Defence
The request was successful.
From: Grace Filby
31 August 2010
Dear Ministry of Defence,
In January 2010 you kindly sent me as promised, a copy of
‘A Literature Review of the Practical Application of Bacteriophage
Research’, Nina Chanishvili, Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage,
Microbiology and Virology, Tbilisi, Georgia, 2009. This was a G8
Priority Global Partnership project dating back to 2006.
Please could you inform me of the number of copies that are now in
circulation in the UK amongst interested parties and potential
stake-holders etc., and when these were sent out?
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Grace Filby (Ms)

Dear Ministry of Defence,
I notice that you have not replied to my FOI request 'Bacteriophage
Report copies in the UK' promptly and by 28 September, as normally
required by law.
I did send you an email via [email address] on 17/9/10 asking for
confirmation of receipt but I received no response either.
Please would you reply to my request?
Yours faithfully,
Grace Filby

Thank you for your Freedom of Information requested dated 31st
August 2010 (Ref No. 14-09-2010-145230-003), consisting of the
following.
In January 2010 you kindly sent me as promised, a copy of ‘A
Literature Review of the Practical Application of Bacteriophage
Research’, Nina Chanishvili, Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage,
Microbiology and Virology, Tbilisi, Georgia, 2009. This was a G8

Response: We have assessed your request under the Freedom of
Information Act. As a result, we can confirm that we hold the
information that you have requested as follows.
MoD and Dstl distributed approximately 15 copies of ‘A Literature
Review of the Practical Application of Bacteriophage Research’ in
the period of January to March 2010. We distributed an additional
20 copies at the ‘Bacteriophage in Biology, Biotechnology and
Medicine’ UK Conference, Welwyn Garden City, on 26th February 2010.
We encouraged the Eliava Institute to issue copies of their report
directly to interested parties. The author also spoke at several
venues when she was in the UK earlier this year, and has attended
conferences in France and Australia. We do not know the number of
copies of the review she sent out directly herself to UK
recipients, including in the context of these events.
If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain
about any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should
contact me in the first instance. If informal resolution is not
possible and you are still dissatisfied then you may apply for an
independent internal review by contacting the Head of Corporate
Information, 2nd Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB
(e-mail [email address]). Please note that any request for an
internal review must be made within 40 working days of the date on
which the attempt to reach informal resolution has come to an end.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may
take your complaint to the Information Commissioner under the
provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please
note that the Information Commissioner will not investigate your
case until the MOD internal review process has been completed.
Further details of the role and powers of the Information
Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,
http://www.ico.gov.uk.
Yours faithfully,
