Awarding of Education contract to Serco.

Dear Sir or Madam,
In 2008, Walsall Borough Council renewed a contract with Serco to
allow the company to provide education services for the borough.
A number of other companies submitted bids to take over the
contract.
Please provide the following information.
1) Which councillors voted FOR the renewal of the contract with
Serco?
2) Which councillors voted AGAINST the renewal of the contract?
3) Which other companies submitted bids to take over the Serco
contract?
4) What reasons were given by the other companies for the
withdrawal of their applications to take over the contract?
5) How much do the local authority pay Serco each year to provide
educational services?
6) What did the other companies propose to charge the local
authority for these services?
7) When did the local authority last audit the accounts of
Education Walsall/Walsall Children's Services - Serco?
8) How many places are there for secondary school pupils in
Walsall?
9) How many of these places are currently occupied by pupils?

It is now over 20 working days since I submitted a request for
information.
Although I have received an acknowledgement of my request, I have
not been told when or if the data will be released.
As you are aware, failure to respond to a request within 20 working
days is a breach of the Freedom of Information Act. Please respond
as a matter of urgency.

Dear Mr.De-Hayes
Further to your recent request for information relating the renewal of the
education contract with Serco please see below (the numbers refer to the
numbered questions in your request )
1& 2. Cabinet considered the awarding of the education contract at its
meetings on the 18^th July 2007 , 6^th February 2008 and 14^th May
2008.However there were not named votes and therefore we do not hold
this information. If you wish to view the minutes for these meetings they

4.No one withdrew a bid
5.The value of the contract is £345 million over 12 years.
6.I am unable to supply this information as it is commercially sensitive
and therefore exempt under Section 43 (2) of the Freedom of information
Act.
7.I am still awaiting information relating to this but will forward it to
you as soon as it is available.
8. There are 20,426 secondary places in Walsall
9. There are 18,737 secondary pupils on roll at schools in Walsall
