Dear Independent Police Support Group

Gloucestershire Constabulary Freedom of Information request 2010.2889

On 15th November 2010 you sent an e-mail constituting a request under the Freedom of Information Act asking the following:

1. Please supply the average length of time in years that an officer would live after retiring. Figures may already be available somewhere but if not can the calculation be worked out over the last 5 years from those officers who have died having retired after 30 years service and were receiving an ordinary pension.

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 s1, I can confirm that Gloucestershire Constabulary does not hold any information.

In response to your request, searches were conducted with the Constabulary’s Human Resources department however no relevant information was located; the Constabulary is not required to record information of this nature once an Officer has left the organisation.

If you are not satisfied with this response or any actions taken in dealing with your request, you have the right to ask that we review your case under our internal procedure.

If you decide to request that such a review is undertaken and following this process you are still unsatisfied, you then have the right to direct your complaint to the Information Commissioner for consideration.

If we can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Miss A Pressman

odd. you would think this information would be available and that you would have been pointed toward it.

possibly the constabulary employs an external agent to administer pension payments - but this must surely be the means by which to determine how long an officer lives? possibly the request could be re-worded to ask the average length a former officer draws his pension - the obvious reason for not doing so would be death.

as the Data Protection Act does not apply top the deceased, possibly there would be less reason to withhold data?
