Dear Greenwich Borough Council,

I am requesting the following on behalf of a charity called the Hop
Skip and Jump Foundation.

• What was the council’s budget for respite care in 2009, 2010, and
2011?
• How many children in the council’s area were registered as
disabled in 2009, 2010, and 2011?
• How many families in the council’s locality qualified for respite
care in 2009, 2010, and 2011?
• How many respite care schemes are funded or operated by the
council?
• How many of these schemes are daycare?
• How many only offer overnight respite?
• What is the average cost of a single night of overnight respite
care for one family?
• How many children were registered with Special Educational Needs
in the council in 2009, 2010, 2011?

I am writing in response to your request for information under the Freedom
of Information Act 2000. Our response is as follows.
 
 1  What was the council s budget for respite care in 2009, 2010, and
     2011?    
    2009/10 £668,992
    2010/11 £1,935,818
    2011/12 £1,935,992
2. How many children in the council s area were registered as
    disabled in 2009, 2010, and 2011?   
    Dec 2009 - 800 
In 2009, the register was reviewed . Parents were contacted to check if
all children were still living in Greenwich, and  if they would like their
child's name placed in the revised register. This provided accurate
figures in subsequent years.
    Dec 2010 - 465
    Dec 2011 - 587
 
 3.  How many families in the council s locality qualified for respite
     care in 2009, 2010, and 2011?    
In 2009    464 children received a short break of some type including
health services
In 2010   748 received a short break of some type including health
services.
In 2011   626 children received a short breaks of some type - excluding
health services.
 

    

4.  How many respite care schemes are funded or operated by the
     council?
 7
    
5.  How many of these schemes are daycare?
6  
    
6. How many only offer overnight respite?
 One.  Overnight breaks are  also offered through a health based
provision.
    
7. What is the average cost of a single night of overnight respite care
for one family?
 £377 per night
         
8. How many children were registered with Special Educational Needs
     in the council in 2009, 2010, 2011?
In 2009  1370 children with statements of Special Educational Needs
In 2010   1370  
In 2011  1280.
