9 February 2010

Dear Mr Ovens

Re: Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 - Request for information

Thank you for your email received here on 19 January 2009 requesting
information about Common Purpose training.

Your request has now been considered under the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002. The answers to your questions are as follows:

1. A full list of authorities who have had Common Purpose training at
Aberdeen University.

- The University does not provide Common Purpose training. From time to
time we have provided facilities to the Common Purpose organisation to
carry out training courses at the University. However we do not have a
record of the organisations involved. The only relevant information we
have on record is a list, dated February 2008, of delegates who were
expected to attend the training course at the University in May 2008. The
delegates were listed as belonging to the following organisations:

Banff and Buchan College

Aberdeen Harbour Board

Social Firms Scotland

Shell EP Europe

Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations

NHS Grampian

Langstane Housing

Mental Health Aberdeen

Peacock Visual Arts

Careers Scotland

Maclay Murray and Spens

HMP Peterhead

FRS Marine Laboratory

Adit Training

Food Standards Agency

OPITO

Castlehill Housing Association

Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce

Total

Fraserburgh Academy

Aberdeen Foyer

Inspire

Schlumberger

The Fifth Business

Talisman Energy UK

Aramark plc

Abermed

Grampian Police

Voluntary Services Aberdeen

BAA

Royal Bank of Scotland

Please note that this list does not necessarily mean that these delegates
actually attended.

2. The full cost of these programmes.

- Because the University does not provide the training courses, the only
cost incurred was that of room hire and catering. The cost of facilitating
Common Purpose training over the past five years was as follows:

2009 £885.38

2008 £913.82

2007 £1,084.07

2006 £858.20

2005 £683.45

Should you be dissatisfied with the University's response under the Act,
you have the right to ask the University formally to review its decision.
If you ask us to do this it will be undertaken by a Lay Member of the
University Court, who has had no previous involvement with your request
and who will, if required, take advice from individuals who also have not
been involved. Any request for review must be in writing or another form
capable of preservation, be received not later than 60 working days
following the date of your original request, and state the matter which
gives rise to your dissatisfaction. It should be addressed to Mr B
Purdon, Clerk to the University Court, University Office, King's College,
ABERDEEN AB24 3FX.

If you are still not satisfied you will then have the right to complain to
the Scottish Information Commissioner, Kinburn Castle, Doubledykes Road,
St Andrews, Fife KY16 9DS.

Yours sincerely,

Rodney Breen
