Dear Anna,

Thank you for you response on the H-marking. The leaflet is useful
and is now available to all users of whatdotheyknow.com.

Could you please clarify the process for approval. Do neighbours
get an opportunity to object?

Also, are the lines always so wide, and is any consideration given
to the increased skid risk which white lines always create?

The reason that I ask, is that in my street in particular, there
are parking problems for the length of the street. The one area
marked seems no different from any other, apart from the ability of
the house occupier to pay.

Please register my formal objection to any more H markings in this
road. I object to the visual intrusion on a residential street.

Yours sincerely,

Neale Upstone

Ben Harris left an annotation (12 January 2009)

It might help you to know that the Traffic Signs Manual (<http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tss/tsma...>, chapter 5, section 22.16) says that these markings "should normally be laid 75 mm wide for speed limits up to 40 mph and 100 mm when the limit is higher" and that "the 50 mm size may be used in environmentally sensitive areas."
