Mr Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Communities and Local Government
The request was partially successful.
From: Mr Smith
8 October 2010
Dear Department for Communities and Local Government,
In a radio interview today the former Communications Director of
the Audit Commission stated that DCLG had been made aware of
proposals by that body to the effect they were already planning
cuts of £50m over the next few years.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/new...
He also stated that the subsequent costs of shutting the Audit
Commission would be substantial based on pension and redundancy
commitments.
Please provide
a) Copies of any correspondence, of whatever form held on live and
backup systems, from the Audit Commission to DCLG outlining their
proposals or intent to undertake reductions in internal costs
received by DCLG between 01 Jan 2009 and 13 Aug 2010.
b) Costs of fulfilling the pension and redundancy commitments of
Audit Commission staff and the impact of the decision to abolish
that body as announced on 13 Aug 2010.
Both of these should be available with little work as they are both
essential pieces of information in informing the Secretary of
States decision to abolish any organisation.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Smith

Keep up the good work, it is nice to feel that an army of armchair auditors is beginning to amass at the portcullis of Eland House.
