Atos causing fear and anxiety among vulnerable people
Mr Taylor made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions
The request was refused by Department for Work and Pensions.
From: Mr Taylor
27 July 2011
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
As appeals against the decisions made following Atos medical
examinations, carried out on behalf of the DWP (and therefore the
government), are currently being overturned in 40% of case.
And as their have been no financial penalties imposed on Atos for
this appalling performance record, is it the case that the
intention, following the introduction of new medical assessments to
decide whether claimants are eligible for sickness benefits, was to
create a culture of "fear and anxiety among vulnerable people"?
As this is the conclusion reached by the committee of MPs due to
the tests successfully resulting in large numbers of seriously
unwell claimants being refused support.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/...
And when does the DWP (and therefore the government) intend to
start imposing the performance penalties on their contractor Atos
for the suffering and hardship caused to the customers of the DWP?
Yours faithfully,
Mr Taylor

Dear DWP Adelphi Freedom-of-Information-Request,
You have not stated when you intend to start imposing the
performance penalties, as outlined in the contract, on your
contractor Atos.
Also your response appears to be in denial of the committee of MPs
finding that the medical assessments are creating a culture of
"fear and anxiety among vulnerable people". Which would indicate
that the DWPs actions are harming patients/customers
Do the DWP consider that that the medical assessments creating a
culture of "fear and anxiety among vulnerable people" to not be the
case, or was this situation the intended consequence of the
introduction of the WCA?
Yours sincerely,
Mr Taylor
