Atos Assessments & Assessors

Clive Arnold made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

The request was successful.

From: Clive Arnold

16 August 2011

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

How many doctors have moved to Britain only to work for Atos's
retesting of disabled people? (people in receipt of ESA/DLA- when
the DLA testing takes place)

What percentage of those carrying out Atos assessments are actual
doctors?

What professionals OTHER than GP's/doctors/consultants are carrying
out Atos assessments?
(broken down into percentages)

How many Atos centres have car parks but direct people attending
appointments to car parks other than the ones Atos use?

How many Atos centres have disabled parking?

How many Atos centres have NO disabled access?

How many people have Atos been instructed (via the use of
government 'targets') to pass as 'fit for work'?

What is the average salary of an Atos assessor? Are the assessors
allowed to claim any expenses and if so what it the average
expenses per assessor and what items/services are they allowed to
claim for?

Yours faithfully,

Clive Arnold

The answer to Q2/3 looks like the split on their register which does not necessarily reflect itself in the % doing WCAs. If Atos is paid a fixed rate per WCA, it pays them to use the cheapest HCPs which probably means the least qualified. For a good number of HCPs, working for Atos is not their only job. My last one does door-to-door botox, but is still able to renew membership of NMC every 3 years and remain an HCP. The criteria are not very rigorous. I just don't see how they are experienced enough to cope with the massive range of illnesses they come across and pretending that "occupational health" does need need the knowledge is fudging the issue in an attempt to keep the job away from the NHS.
