Dear Mr Phillips,
I refer to your request for information, which was received on 12th
March, 2011 and has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act
2000.
The specific information you requested was as follows:
"Could you please tell me how many houses are being kept for the sole
use of asylum seekers in Carmarthenshire and also how many asylum
seekers are currently being accommodated in the council area?"
In response, I can confirm that Carmarthenshire is not part of the
consortium in South Wales that deals with providing accommodation for
asylum seekers. The only local authorities that are involved are
Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.
Therefpre, no houses are being kept within this County for the sole use
of asylum seekers and no asylum seekers are being accomodated in this
Council's area.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact
me.
Yours sincerely
