Associate Professor Status
Adam Fischer made this Freedom of Information request to University of Plymouth
The request was successful.
From: Adam Fischer
7 January 2011
Dear University of Plymouth,
I notice that the University of Plymouth is allowing some of its
academic staff to use the title "Associate Professor".
I understood that the title of 'Professor' is reserved in
correspondence to full professors only; lecturers and readers are
properly addressed by their academic qualification (Dr for a PhD,
DPhil etc. and Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms otherwise), however the University of
Plymouth appears to allow its Associate Professors to use the title
'Professor' (e.g.

Can you please forward me any guidance on the usage of the
Associate Professor title at the University of Plymouth.
Yours sincerely,
Prof Adam Fischer
