Asking for FOI Complaints to be withdrawn

Richard Jackson made this Freedom of Information request to Rother District Council

The request was partially successful.

From: Richard Jackson

23 September 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

In response to a prior FOI request, Rother has stated that it has
only ever received 10 complaints in relation to FOI requests.

Can you please clarify whether the Council includes in these
numbers complaints that have subsequently been withdrawn? If not,
please also list all requests for which a complaint was made but
then withdrawn.

Please also provide details of complaints where the Council
requested that the complainant withdraw the complaint but this did
not happen.

Yours faithfully,

Richard Jackson

Dear Mr Jackson

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000

With reference to your request received on 23 September 2008 about
complaints re FOI requests, we have not recorded information about the
precise details of some earlier complaints. Our recorsd show only that
information was provided and no further action taken by either party
Using our numerical references (to preserve annonymity of complainants not
using whatdotheyknow), the information available is as follows:

149 - complained about release of photographs - no formal complaint made

373 - formal complaint made - Responded to by Customer Services on 7
August - no further action

405 - Complaint withdrawn after being requested - information provided

407 - Yourself - Letter sent from Head of Corporate Services - 7 August

430 - Yourself - currently being dealt with

On closer examination of our records, some cases logged as complaints were
not really complaints at all. In fact we have only had 5 complaints. I
apologise that the information given previously was inaccurate.

You may use our internal complaints procedure if you are dissatisfied. If
you are still dissatisfied you may appeal to the Information
Commissioner. Please contact Anne Bruin, Team Leader - Customer Services,
if you wish to complain.
