Dear Mr Yerli,
Release of information
Thank you for your e-mail dated 08 July 2008, requesting information
regarding what support the Army Cadet Force (ACF) is given, in terms of
equipment and uniforms. Your request has been considered to be a
request for information in accordance with the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 and I can confirm that Army Cadets are provided with complete
uniforms but that individual Cadets are expected to purchase their own
boots. This is due to the fact that boots cannot be reissued once they
have been used and also serves as a demonstration of commitment to the
ACF. Any necessary equipment, such as bergans, webbing, mess tins,
water bottles, compasses, waterproofs etc is also provided. Similarly,
equipment required in support of Adventurous Training is provided and
this can include items such as tents, kayaks, rucksacks, climbing gear
etc. Where an ACF has a Band Detachment, instruments and uniforms are
also provided.
Cadet Force Adult Instructors (CFAVs) are engaged on a voluntary basis
and are remunerated for time taken off work. This is classed as
reimbursing expenses rather than formal pay.
I hope that this information meets your requirements but if you feel
that your request has not been sufficiently answered, please see the
procedure below.
Yours sincerely
Mrs Kathryn Winmill
