Dear Liverpool John Moores University,
This request concerns the Area Information System. It was a project
run from Liverpool Polytechnic in about 1985. It worked with civil
servants from many departments to build a mainframe database of
public sector spending, housing, school performance and other
information.
Please send me:
* any summary document about the project, detailing its scope, its
succeses and effects.
* a list of information, such as documents and databases, that you
still hold about the project.

Dear Sutcliffe, Lynn,
Sorry for my delay in replying to you with additional information
about my FOI request for documents about the "Area Information
System" project.
The project was initially called the "Capital Planning Project" in
1983 and the Committee the included Gilbert Jones (Polytechnic
Finance Officer), Cllr John Linden (Chairman of Governors),Cllr
Keva Coombes (Leader Merseyside County Council), and Des McConaghy
(who ran the project).
They started in 1983 with a budget of £44,395 largely from the then
Manpower Services Commission with some
Merseyside County Council grants.
The project was in the process of registering as a charity when it
had to be cancelled a couple of years later, due to rules changes
at the DTI which prevented it accessing the information it used.
