Are people with autism being targetted for welfare "reform" (disability benefit cuts)?
P. Smith made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions
The request was partially successful.
From: P. Smith
22 January 2012
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
It is said that the DWP / Con-Dem Government is targetting hidden
disability - including autism - for major cuts in disability
benefits under the welfare "reforms".
Please provide the statistics that inform and attempt to justify
this policy / approach / plan, and explain why those with autism
are (possibly) being targetted.
Please provide the figures for the projected savings arising from
these proposed benefit cuts to those with autism (of any sort) that
the DWP / government are using / working towards.
Please provide copies of ANY documentation both hard copy or
computerised that informs, discusses, records etc this action,
whether on or off the record.
Please provide any information that would explain how those with
autism are expected to cope if their benefits are cut?
Yours faithfully,
[P. Smith].
