Dear FOI Officer

Could you please provide the following:

1 a copy of the pay scales for all staff employed by Surrey County
Council or by any subsidiary (such as Surrey County Archaeology
Unit) who is working in any field associated with archaeology
(including but not limited to for example geomatics, processing of
finds, field work, archaeology project management, senior managers
and archaeology support staff etc.)

2 details of any allowances (such as regional pay or London
weighting) that are paid in addition to these scales.

3 details of your overtime policy and sick pay policy for these
staff together with details of any non-financial benefits.

4 details of any pension scheme accessible to employees on these
pay scales with a summary of the percentage of salary of the
employer contribution and employee contribution.

If your grades have been assessed using a job evaluation system
(such as Hay) could you please also provide details of the system
used and the score for each of the grades in the pay scales.

Please include with this the job titles of the groups of staff
within each grade/band of the pay scales.

We have considered your request which was for information on
archaeologists. I now enclose the following information:

1 a copy of the pay scales for all staff employed by Surrey County Council
or by any subsidiary (such as Surrey County Archaeology Unit) who is
working in any field associated with archaeology (including but not
limited to for example geomatics, processing of finds, field work,
archaeology project management, senior managers and archaeology support
staff etc.). Please include with this the job titles of the groups of
staff within each grade/band of the pay scales.

The information below relates to staff employed by Surrey County Council.
We do not hold information on pay and conditions of staff employed by
other organisations.

Archaeological staff employed by Surrey County Council are on Surrey Pay.
This applies to the majority of the county council's employees and is
based on local negotiation of pay and conditions. The table below shows
the relevant position titles and grades.

Details of the additional hours/overtime and sick pay policy for those on
surrey Pay are attached.

4 details of any pension scheme accessible to employees on these pay
scales with a summary of the percentage of salary of the employer
contribution and employee contribution.

Information on the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is already
available to you on our website (www.surreycc.gov.uk). Select "Your
Council" from the options on the left of the screen, then select "Jobs"
from the menu which appears. Click on "Working for Surrey" and you will
see a link to the Surrey Pension Fund. If you do not have access to the
internet at home you may be able to use facilities in your local public
library.

5 If your grades have been assessed using a job evaluation system (such as
Hay) could you please also provide details of the system used and the
score for each of the grades in the pay scales.

Surrey County Council uses Hay for all job evaluations. A copy of our job
evaluation policy is attached.

The table below shows the scores for the grades relevant to archaeological
staff.
