Appointment of rural Sub Postmaster Appointments / Post Office Local Operaters
Ian Diffley made this Freedom of Information request to Royal Mail Group Limited
The request was partially successful.
From: Ian Diffley
8 November 2011
Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,
Having been a Senior Manager in Royal Mail Group and having taken
voluntary redundancy I applied for a Sub Postmaster vacancy at my
local Post Office which is a village shop. Having got to the
interview stage I was dissapointed to learn that as an ex Senior
Manager I was unsuitable to run a village shop and local post
office. Despite also having Government Security Clearance, a BSC
honours degree (sponsored by RMG) and a HNC in Business and Finance
(sponsored by Post Office Limited).
I am aware of four other local Sub Post Offices namely,
Thongsbridge, Cumberworth, Netherthong and Scholes (all Holmfirth)
which have also been on the market for some time.
I have written to my MP, local councillor, and POL for an
explanantion of why my local Post Office has been denied a new
operater.
I would now like you to tell me how many applications for the above
offices have been recieved between 8th November 2009 and 2011 and
how many have been refused and on what grounds.
Yours faithfully,
Ian Diffley
