Dear Mr Carter,
Thank you for your FOI request received on 31 December 2011.
My colleagues have confirmed that the expanse of the data that you require would exceed the appropriate limit of 18 hours cited in Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act and defined in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. Extracting the information relevant to your request would require accessing several different databases and performing various bespoke reports, including manual data searches for the older data that is not as accessible. This would require a high level of skill and judgement that could take weeks of work.
Particular issues that would take us a long time to process are:
The period of data that you require (i.e. from 1994)
The detail of data that you require, including:
Separating deferred entry candidates
Separating candidate application dates
All courses that the University offers/has offered since 1994
Also, please note that data held on unsuccessful applicants is minimal.
UCAS recently became subject to the Freedom of Information Act and you may find, if you have not done so already, that they hold some of the data you are requesting in a more accessible format.
If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review, you should write to Freedom of Information Team, Student Records Office, Registry, University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 7NZ.
Kind regards,
Laura
