Annulments on grounds of Gender Reassignment

Emma Brownbill made this Freedom of Information request to Her Majesty’s Courts and the Tribunals Service

The request was partially successful.

From: Emma Brownbill

3 January 2012

To whom it may concern,

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act relating to
information possibly held by Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals
Service. I would be grateful if you could provide me with the
following:

1) The number of Marriages and Civil Partnerships in each year
since 2004 for which a decree of nullity has been granted on the
grounds that "the respondent is a person whose gender at the time
of its formation had become the acquired gender under the 2004
[Gender Recognition] Act".

2) The number of Marriages and Civil Partnerships in each year
since 2004 for which a decree of nullity has been granted on the
grounds that "an interim gender recognition certificate under the
Gender Recognition Act 2004 has, after the time of its formation,
been issued to either party to the marriage [or civil partner]".

3) The number of Civil Partnerships registered in each year since
2004 by application of Schedule 3 (Registration by former spouses
one of whom has changed sex) of the Civil Partnerships Act.

In the event that fulfilling this request would exceed the cost
limits set out in the Act, please prioritise item 1.

Yours faithfully,
Emma Brownbill
