Dear Mr Keenan
Thank you for your email below which was received by my colleagues in
Enquiries Team. I will be dealing with this request under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA). Under the FOIA Ofwat has 20 working days to
respond to your request. The deadline for your request is therefore 21
June, taking account of the Bank Holiday on Monday 30 May.
I note that you have used the website whatdothey know.com to submit your
information request. This is a perfectly valid process to use and you
will achieve a wide coverage of public authorities. However, the downside
is that all of the public authorities receiving the information request
will not always hold the information requested.
This may be the case for Ofwat and your information request. I think it
will be useful if you have some background information on Ofwat and
Ofwat's role. You can view this information on the Ofwat website using
the link below. You will see that Ofwat is the economic regulator of the
water industry. [1]http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/
Ofwat works closely with a number of organisations to regulate the water
industry. You can view details on these other stakeholders using the link
below.
[2]http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/aboutofwat/stake...
Ofwat does indeed collect information in order to fulfil its role of
economic regulator. There is an explanation of the information that is
collected on the website, which can be viewed using the link below.
[3]http://www.ofwat.gov.uk/regulating/juner...
My initial assessment is that Ofwat does not receive and therefore does
not hold any data sets from Hackney London Borough Council. However, to
be certain that Ofwat does not hold any information I need further details
to identify and locate any information. Further, it may be that I can
direct you to the public authority that may hold this information. In
order for me to do this, could you please specify exactly what information
is contained in the data sets?
The purpose of asking for this clarification is only to ensure that I
understand what information you want. You are not obliged to explain your
reason for making the request but any information that you can provide may
help to determine any help that I can provide.
If you need assistance with this, my contact details are below.
Yours sincerely

No problem at all but it may be that some of the other stakeholders may collect the information that you require. If you can specify the dataset I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hello Paula
My reason for asking for a list of data sets returned by Hackney
LBC is because I then want to know which type of data set to
request.
Attempting to clarify this request makes this a Catch-22 loop where
I don't know what to ask for but need to know what to ask for. Do
you have any options for me?
Yours sincerely
Jed Keenan

Jed
I am afraid that I do not have any options. Ofwat does not hold any
information from Hackney LBC though.
I wish you luck with your information requests.
