Dear Mr Keenan,
Thank you for your enquiry of 23 May 2011 which is being handled under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. You asked for information regarding
datasets returned to The National Archives by Hackney Borough Council.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you two rights of access when
you write to us asking for information. You have the right to know whether
we hold the information that you are looking for, and you have the right
to have the information given to you. These rights may only be overridden
if the information you are looking for is covered by an exemption in the
Act.
The National Archives does not hold any datasets from the London Borough
Council of Hackney. However, I can advise you that the Department for
Communities and Local Government (DCLG) publishes a list datasets that all
local authorities, including London Boroughs, must return to central
government departments. This is referred to as the 'Single Data List' and
it can be found on the DCLG website.
The National Archives does receive information from the Borough Council of
HackneyÂ’s archive service only. This information is returned annually
by archive services across England and is a response to the Accessions to
Repositories survey for each year, listing archive acquisitions for the
previous calendar year. This is publicly available information, the most
recent available for Hackney is available at
[1]www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/accessions/2009/09returns/09ac84.htm and
the 2010 return will shortly be available.
If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of our response to your request
for information and/or wish to appeal against information being withheld
from you please send full details within two calendar months of the date
of this letter to:
The Quality Manager

You have the right to ask the Information Commissioner (ICO) to
investigate any aspect of your complaint. Please note that the ICO is
likely to expect internal complaints procedures to have been exhausted
before beginning his investigation.
