(2) how much money was spent on these roadworks.
(3) how long these roadworks are expected to last before further
roadworks are required on Amwell Street.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Brennan
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REF No: 311515
Thank you for your information request, received on 17/02/2010.
You requested the following information:
I am interested in learning
(1) which contractors worked on the roadworks on Amwell Street in
September - October 2009.
(2) how much money was spent on these roadworks.
(3) how long these roadworks are expected to last before further
roadworks are required on Amwell Street.
(4) how the borough insures that roadworks are done in an efficient
and cost-effective manner.
I have consulted our Head of Service for Highways Services Martin Holland
and can advise you as follows:
Amwell Street was resurfaced and repaved by our contractor FM Conway at a
cost of -L-604,000. Prior to these works, the electricity and water
utilities carried out major works using their own contractors. To ensure
that we get the maximum value out of the 40 year design life for these
works, we coordinated our works with the utility companies. The utility
companies are now prevented from breaking up the surface for planned works
before December 2012. However, the utility companies do have a statutory
right to attend to any emergencies or provide new supplies during this
period; alongside a statutory obligation to carry out permanent
reinstatements to any surfacing they interfere with.
