Amount spent in Worcestershire on pavements damaged by pavement parking.
Alastair made this Freedom of Information request to Worcestershire County Council
The request was partially successful.
From: Alastair
20 April 2010
Dear Worcestershire County Council,
There is grave concern about damage to pavements caused by pavement
parking in Hagley where I live and other local villages.
West Mercia Police just refuse to enforce legislation that does
exist.
In Middlefield Lane, Chapel Street, Winds Point and other places in
Hagley there is much damage due to regular pavement parking. Even
total parking on the pavement is not enforced.
My questions are:
1. How much has the council spent on repairing pavements damaged by
this illegal parking annually during the last five years? An
estimate will suffice.
2. How much has been spent by the county council in Hagley annually
in the same five years? An estimate will suffice.
3. What plans do the county council have to deal with this
deteriorating situation ( cracks are appearing in the pavements
even now) given the fact that the council should in theory have the
cooperation of the police under the relevant section ( 17?) of the
Crime and Disorder Act? Please give details of any plans.
4. Given that Hagley has a high level of senior/ disabled citizens
and there is an ageing population generally what plans under the
Disability Discrimination Act has the county council got to
remediate this awful situation? Please give details of any such
plans.
Yours faithfully,
Alastair Lambert

Dear Clarke, Tracy (ES),
I am referring to pavements alone. Yes, I require a spend on
pavements for Hagley. Not Highways and not education.
The concern is about the long unrepaired pavements in Hagley.
Yours sincerely,
Alastair Lambert

Dear Clarke, Tracy (ES),
Two separate pieces of information are required. The spend in
Hagley and in Worcestershire as a whole just on pavements damaged
by pavement parking.
Presumably, records on the above damage are kept.

Dear Mr Lambert,
ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION REGULATIONS 2004- INFORMATION REQUEST CONCERNING
Pavements damaged by pavement parking
Thank you for contacting Worcestershire County Council.
Your request for information has now been considered and the information
you have asked for is as follows.
1. How much has the council spent on repairing pavements damaged by
this illegal parking annually during the last five years? An
estimate will suffice.
We do not hold records of why a pavement has been damaged and cannot
supply the information requested.
2. How much has been spent by the county council in Hagley (on
pavements) annually
in the same five years? An estimate will suffice.
We do not hold this information, Worcestershire County Council work on a
County wide basis and do not hold records on individual causes of damage
or spend in a particular area.
3. What plans do the county council have to deal with this
deteriorating situation ( cracks are appearing in the pavements
even now) given the fact that the council should in theory have the
cooperation of the police under the relevant section ( 17?) of the
Crime and Disorder Act? Please give details of any plans.
This is a County wide problem which is pursued through liaison with the
police to investigate the problem and encourage them to enforce on a site
by site basis as raised by the local member.
4. Given that Hagley has a high level of senior/ disabled citizens
and there is an ageing population generally what plans under the
Disability Discrimination Act has the county council got to
remediate this awful situation? Please give details of any such
plans.
Where an issue is raised by the local member it would be investigated and
liaison with the police would be carried out
