From: James Magog
Sunderland City Council
5 August 2011
Dear John,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST - 110765
I refer to your request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 sent to Sunderland City Council on 25th July 2011, requesting
information relating to the cost to purchase the former vaux site in
Sunderland.
Question:
I would like to know the amount paid for the former Vaux site to consider
if it was council tax payers money well spent.
Response:
The total amount paid for the Vaux site including stamp duty was
£22,000,000 (excluding VAT which is recoverable) .
The purchase was funded primarily from external funding sources
including English Partnerships and One North East and Sunderland ARC who
provided funding of £50,000. The Council contribution to the purchase
was £1million.
Question:
Also what is the company number for Sunderland City Council, if you cannot
give me the number can you tell me which corporation owns the council
buildings and land used by the city council
Response:
Local Authorities are not subject to the same regulations as private
companies and as such Sunderland City Council does not have an assigned
company number. The city council owns or leases all of the buildings and
land used by the city council.
I hope this is satisfactory. If, however, you are dissatisfied with the
Council response to your request for information, you may request a
further review. This will be removed from the Service Area and
coordinated by the Council's Information Manager. A request for further
review should be directed to e-mail to
[1][Sunderland City Council request email], or addressed to the Information
Manager, PO Box 100, Civic Centre, Sunderland, SR2 7DN.
If this decision fails to resolve your concerns then you have the right to
apply to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Regards
James
