Dear House of Lords,
Can you please give me the following information?
For the last 12 months how many amendments were tabled by
government ministers in the Lords, and by non goverment Lords.
For each category, how many became law and how many did not become
law.
Yours faithfully,
Nick Leaton

House of Lords

Dear Mr Leaton
I am writing in response to your request for information received by the House of Lords administration on 15 December 2009.
The House of Lords administration does not hold the information requested for the calendar year, but does keep sessional statistics. For the 2008-2009 session (3 December 2008 - 12 November 2009):
Total number of amendments tabled to public bills: 6363 Government amendments made: 1748 Non-Government amendments made: 76 Total number of amendments made: 1824 Total number of amendments tabled but not made: 4539 (we do not keep a record as to whether these are Government or non-Government)
This does not include amendments tabled to private bills.
It is difficult to say how many of the amendments actually become law, because amendments agreed to in the House of Lords may be altered at a later stage or removed in the House of Commons.
All of the amendments tabled for every Bill are available on the Bill's webpage. The webpages for Bills being considered in the current session can be found here:
http://services.parliament.uk/bills/
Webpages for Bills in previous sessions can be found here:
http://www.parliament.uk/business/bills_...
The names of the members which tabled each amendment are indicated on the amendment sheets and marshalled lists. In order to find out whether the amendment was agreed to, you would need to read the Official Report from the day on which the amendment was considered. Previous editions of the Official Report can be found here:
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa...
In order to find out whether the amendment had been agreed to or overturned in the House of Commons, you would need to check the Official Report of the House of Commons, which can be found here:
http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa...
The final texts of Acts can be found here:

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request for information, ask the House of Lords to conduct an internal review. Requests for an internal review should be addressed to [email address] or to the Freedom of Information Officer, House of Lords, London, SW1A 0PW. Arrangements will be made for someone who has not been involved in dealing with your request to conduct an internal review within 20 working days.
If, following your review, you remain dissatisfied with the House's treatment of your request for information then you may take your complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Yours sincerely

Dear Alex ,
Thanks for your reply. It's appreciated. For once someone has given
a clear and comprehensive reply to an FOI request. If only all FOI
requests were the same.
Yours sincerely,
Nick Leaton
