Dear Allerdale District Council,
At some stage in the last 10-15 years or so, it is believed that
four houses at Belle Vue were transferred from Bridekirk Parish to
Papcastle Parish. If this is so, I wish to know the effective date
for this transfer and the document or authorisation title for this
change.
Yours faithfully,
Eric Apperley

Dear Gilbert, Andrew,
This is strange. Older OS maps show the ancient parish boundary
coming straight down between the two sets of four terraced houses
at Belle Vue. More recent OS maps (e.g 2005) show the boundary
looping to the east putting the easterly set of houses in Papcastle
parish. There should have been a change to the parish precept base
so somenone should have a record.
Yours sincerely,
Eric Apperley

Dear Gilbert, Andrew,
After further searching on LGBCE website, I find a reference to
transfers of parts of certain parishes (not specified) - SI 1982
No. 195. I will be surprised if the change dates back that far but
can you please ask for a check on this.
Yours sincerely,
Eric Apperley

Mr Apperley,
I carried out some further investigations with our Democratic Services and our Legal sections. However, neither could find any further record of any change, nor could remember it.
Having received your other email which made reference to SI 1982 No. 195 I came across the order (link below) which is on the Boundary Commission website. In the table at the end it does refer to changes to the Bridekirk and Papcastle parishes. In the accompanying map (which isn't of great detail) the circle marking the area of the change does appear to be in the Belle Vue area of Papcastle. I note that the circle appears below the 'bulge' to the east that the parish boundary takes. I believe this correlates with the modern boundaries.
http://www.lgbce.org.uk/__documents/lgbc...
Therefore, although I couldn't say with any certainty, it does appear that this may be the order which may have transferred the properties in question. I wonder if the Boundary Commission could shed more light on this for you?
I hope this is of assistance,
Yours,
Andrew Gilbert

Dear Freedom of Information (foi) (Allerdale),
Andrew Gilbert
Thanks for that. I have also tried the Boundary Commssion which
leads me to the online copy of the order but indicating you hold
the relevant map. From your comments, I think we can conclude that
the information sought was correct.
We can therefore conclude this enquiry and regard it as successful.
Yours sincerely,
Eric Apperley
