Dear Mr Griffiths

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

Further to my acknowledgement of 22 December 2008, I am now responding to
the question that you raised, in your request.

It is noted that you have not specifically requested any information, but
that you want to know whether such information would be provided on
request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to comply with
our duty to advise and assist those who propose to make requests for
information I have responded to your questions below. Please note that
while you refer generically to "civil servants" this response presumes
that you mean civil servants working at Treasury Solicitor's Department.

Any request relating to the salary/allowances of civil servants is likely
to raise issues of personal data and the exemption in section 40(2) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 is likely to be engaged. However, some
details relating to the salary and benefits of senior civil servants are
published within departmental annual reports and are available via the
TSol Publication Scheme on our website at [1]www.tsol.gov.uk.

Depending on the nature of the request, other exemptions might also apply.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

Yours sincerely

Patrick Driscoll
