Dear Ms Campbell

Further to your FOI request, Log ID 400499, I will answer the questions as they are raised :-

We have 32 allotment sites that are held by the Council there are some private sites but we do not hold any information on their details, such as waiting lists.

The total number of plots available is 1085.

The total number of people currently on waiting lists is 2277.

None of the site waiting lists are closed.

There were no new allotment sites brought into use in 2009.

We have had a number of enquiries for advice from landowners who are looking to turn some of their land into allotment sites.

We have several community projects which encourage people to grow their own food locally and the Council is also looking to provide an alternative to allotments. This is 'Growing Places' which aims to give people the opportunity to grow things on Council and other land This land may not necessarily have the same statutory status as allotments but it would enable people without allotments or gardens to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers in a similar way to allotments.

I hope this answers your questions, if you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact us. H Hazel Barber Parks and Open Spaces Manager Cheshire West and Chester Council Tel.0151 356 6991 Fax. 0151 355 7110.
