Dear Rose Raine,

I wrote to CEC on the 4th January requesting data on allotment
waiting lists (see below). I haven't yet had a respose to this,
even though by law, the authority should normally have responded
promptly and by 1 February 2010. I would be very grateful if you
could follow this up.

My request was as follows:
"1) How many allotment sites are there in the council area for
which the Council has access to waiting list data?

2) What is the total number of plots on these sites?

3) What is the total number of people on waiting lists for these
sites?

4) Are any of these waiting lists closed to further applications?

5) How many new council allotment sites were brought into use in
2009? Please give:
a) number of new sites
b) names of new sites
c) total area of new land in hectares
d) total number of new plots"

Many thanks,

Margaret Campbell

Dear Mrs Campbell

Thank you for your request for information concerning allotments. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding.

As you may be aware Cheshire East Council came into existence on 1st April 2009 as a result of radical re-organisation of local government within Cheshire. The council's allotments were previously provided by the former district councils of Crewe & Nantwich, Macclesfield and Congleton which were abolished at the end of March 2009. Unfortunately, though I am able to supply some information regarding numbers and waiting lists I am not able to confidently answer all your questions at the moment. A Parks Development Officer has recently been appointed and is due to take up his duties shortly, it will be his responsibility to co-ordinate and bring up to date this information and it is anticipated that we will be able to provide full details by May 2010.

In the meantime on the basis of our existing records I am able to tell you that as of September 2009 we had 1581 allotment plots across the borough; there are approximately 550 people on the waiting lists. Waiting times were approximately four months to two years dependant upon the locality. It is my understanding that none of the waiting lists are closed and that no new sites were brought into use in 2009.

I hope the above information will prove useful to you though I suggest you if re-submit your request in May more accurate figures will be available.

Once again I apologise for the delay in responding to you.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review, under the Freedom of Information Act, of this decision relating to your request, you should write to the Freedom of Information Officer, Cheshire East Council, Westfields. Sandbach, Cheshire, CW11 1HZ

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely

Dear FOI East,

In January I submitted the following request:

"1) How many allotment sites are there in Cheshire East for which
Cheshire East Council has access to waiting list data?

2) What is the total number of plots on these sites?

3) What is the total number of people on waiting lists for these

You suggested that I resubmit the request in May because of the
difficulties with reorganisation.

I would therefore be grateful if you could provide the updated
information.

Many thanks,

Margaret Campbell

This is made up of 400 in the North (Macclesfield area) and 259 in the south (Crewe and Nantwich and the Congleton area).
