Dear Julie MacKinnon,
Thank you for your response.
I would like to ask about the Somervell Road allotments as I have
reason to believe that this land, according to NLC very new website
planning records, has planning application granted for building
residential properties.
Please can you confirm if this site is occupied by allotment
members as I have seen no one on site when I have been on site
visits but found that the gates to the allotment and the park
(which was built on the site of the horticultural nursery) were
locked with a Red 'Work in Progress' sign on the gates.
If this site is not occupied then please can you resubmit your
answers to reflect the facts, bearing in mind that the 30 allotment
members who NLC claim occupy the plots for Somervell road would now
be added to the increasing waiting list.
I would like to suggest that the NLC new website should reflect
these facts also as according to the website it states there are
511 plots including Somervell Road.
I have added up the site totals including SR and i can't even reach
the 511 NLC claim to have.
Yours sincerely,
Lesley

Dear Lesley
Further to your query regarding the Somervell Road allotments I can
confirm the following:
1. The site is occupied by allotment members.
2. The figure of 511 on our website was incorrect and is currently
being updated. The figure should have stated 411.
With regards to the 'work in progress', hopefully the following will
provide some clarification:
Former Horticultural Nursery off Somervell Rd
We are in the process of creating a public park on the majority of this
former nursery site.
We also obtained outline planning permission for 3 housing plots (planning
ref PA/2010/0379) on part of this site, at the entrance. We have now sold
the housing land and the purchaser has obtained full planning
permission for housing (ref PA/2011/1020) on that part of the site. The
gate to this former horticultural nursery site has a sign on it, which
says 'Keep out - Works in progress'. None of this site has ever been used
as allotments.
Somervell Rd Allotments
These allotments are adjacent to the former nursery site.
In 2006 the council obtained consent from the Secretary of State to
sell 4.28 acres of the allotments. We obtained outline planning permission
for housing on the 4.28 acres in 2008 and have recently renewed that
permission (ref PA/2011/1048). This leaves approx 2.5 acres of operational
allotments that are still in use.
