Dear Sir or Madam,
As of December 2008, please could you tell me:
1) How many allotment sites are there in the Borough for which the
council has access to waiting list data?
2) How many plots are on these sites?
3) How many people are on these waiting lists for an allotment?
4) Are any of these waiting lists closed to further applications?
5) How many sites are there in total in the Borough?
Yours faithfully,
Margaret Campbell

Dear Janette Goodinson,
It's not really for anything. I would just like to know how many
individuals are known to be waiting for how many allotments, and
how this relates to the total number of allotments in Bradford.
Yours sincerely,
Margaret Campbell

Good afternoon Margaret,
Please see the attached spreadsheet for the figures requested. I have
broken the figures down into sites, as I thought just overall totals
would not give an accurate representation of where the longest lists
are.
As you will see, the outer areas of Bradford i.e. Bingley, Shipley,
Saltaire and Haworth are the most popular, with the longest waiting
lists & waiting times, approx 5+ years.
A number of the inner Bradford sites have plenty of unoccupied plots.
Unfortunately this causes a vicious circle - the longer plots remain
unused, the more overgrown they become: the more overgrown they are the
less people want to take them.
I hope this answers your queries.
if you are not satisfied with this response for information, you have
the right of appeal, whereupon an internal review of the information
will take place if you contact the Freedom of Information Officer,
Fourth Floor, Jacobs Well, Bradford BD1 5RW or by email on
[Bradford City Council request email] .
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the internal review, you
have the tight of appeal to the Information Commissioner.

Dear Janette Goodinson,
Thank you for this breakdown.
Could you just confirm for me if any of these waiting lists are
closed to further applications, and how many other sites are there
within the Borough for which BMDC does not have waiting list
figures?
Many thanks,
Margaret Campbell

Good afternoon Margaret,
Non of the site waiting lists have been closed; we are still accepting
names but we do tell people about the long time scale to get an
allotment.
Unfortunately, I cannot give figures for sites which are not run by
Bradford Council. The majority of Parish and Town Councils run their own
allotment sections and so have their own details. The current Parish
and Town Councils that I know of with their own allotments are: Ilkley,
Burley-in-Wharfedale, Keighley, Wilsden, Clayton and Baildon. Although
Haworth & Silsden are both Parish Councils, I still maintain them for
the moment and have included their figures in the spreadsheet.
Sites which are entirely self managed also keep their own waiting lists,
and so I do not have access to this information. I only have 1 self
managed site which is not included in the figures.
Private sites are totally unknown and I have no information on them at
all.
I hope this helps.
regards
Janette
