Dear Sir or Madam,

As of December 2008, please could you tell me:

1) How many allotment sites are there in the Borough for which the
council has access to waiting list data?

2) How many plots are on these sites?

3) How many people are on these waiting lists for an allotment?

4) Are any of these waiting lists closed to further applications?

5) How many sites are there in total in the Borough?

Yours faithfully,

Margaret Campbell

Dear Ms Campbell

Further to your request for information about allotments in
Wolverhampton:

Wolverhampton City Council has a total of 1076 allotment plots which are
let on 31 sites situated across the city.

Each allotment site is run through a volunteer site secretary, or a
committee of plot holders, who represent the site and arrange the
letting of plots, collecting of rent etc.

All waiting lists for allotments are held by the site secretary. No
waiting list information is held centrally by the Council.

Many people looking for an allotment will put their names on several
waiting lists and not everyone takes their name off all of the lists
when they find an allotment. This means that any calculation of the
total number of people waiting for an allotment is only an
approximation. Our current estimate of numbers waiting for an allotment
in the city, is 180.

Non of the waiting lists are closed.

I hope this information answers your questions. If I can be of further
help, please contact me again.

Dear Anton Emery,

Many thanks for that. Would you just be able to confirm if there
are other sites within Wolverhampton run by other authorities (eg
town councils, private allotment societies etc). If so, does the
council have any record of how many such sites?

Yours sincerely,

Margaret Campbell

Dear Ms Campbell

Yes, I can confirm that there are other allotment sites in
Wolverhampton. We have knowledge of three sites, all of which are
privately owned.
