Dear Sir or Madam,
As of December 2008, please could you tell me:
1) How many allotment sites are there in the Council area for which
the council has access to waiting list data?
2) How many plots are on these sites in total?
3) In total, how many people are on these waiting lists for an
allotment?
4) Are any of these waiting lists closed to further applications?
5) How many sites are there in total in the Council area?
Yours faithfully,
Margaret Campbell

Thank you for your email.
West Devon Borough Council does not own, manage or operate any statutory
allotments. We do sometimes allow pieces of Council land to be used as
garden land/allotments on licence. This is usually to a property owner
or tenant living either adjoining the land or close by. As such there
are often no waiting lists and interested parties approach us direct to
see if we are happy to consent to this usage. There may be long terms
plans for some of these pieces of land, which means that the arrangement
can only be temporary.
We do have an area comprising 4 gardens/allotments off Whitchurch Road
in Tavistock for which we do keep a waiting list. There are 10 people on
this list who live in the vicinity. We also have 1 person on the list
for the sole piece of land we allow to be used as garden land in Bere
Alston. There is also a community garden in Whitchurch but allocation of
the plots is not undertaken by the Council although we issue the
licences.
I attach a list of some other known allotments in West Devon and you
will need to approach the contacts for these for the information you
seek. There is also a web page you can view using the following link:
http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/services/ser...
The list is not comprehensive and if you want further information you
will need to contact the parish clerks to see if they have details of
any allotments in their parishes. A link to the parish clerks details is
as follows:
http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/clerks.asp?d...
If you require any further information please feel free to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Debbie Bird
