alegations of abuse within the home educating community
Anita Cameron made this Freedom of Information request to Cheshire West and Chester Council
Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Cheshire West and Chester Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Sir or Madam,
In light of recent very public insinuations by the NSPCC and a
government review panel about the conduct of home educating
families I would like to know:
A. The number of persons in the local authority of compulsory
school age who are, or claimed to be, electively home educated and
who have been either suspected or found to be involved in child
abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation or domestic
servitude.
B. How many (if any) Serious Case Reviews or Joint Area Reviews
have reported with respect to home educated children in the LA.
Yours faithfully,
Kathleen Berisford

Dear Ms Berisford
Thanks you for your email of 14 April.
As you may be aware, local government in Cheshire has been restructured,
with effect from 1 April 2009. The former County Council, which was the
Education Authority, was abolished, together with the 6 District
Councils, and replaced by 2 new unitary authorities, Cheshire West and
Chester, and Cheshire East. I think in the circumstances it would be
appropriate to supply you with information relating to the whole County
rather than to the new administrative divisions.
Before logging your enquiry, I would be grateful if you clarify to what
period of time your request refers.
Yours sincerely

Dear FOI West,
initially I would like to know about current cases as this is a
recent accusation against home educators and thus, one would
assume, the case must be recent.
Yours sincerely,
Anita Cameron
