Dear Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust,
Under the Freedom of Information Act, I would like to know how many
children, aged 0-17, were found to have consumed alcohol when
treated by MEHT over the past five years? Can you give a breakdown
of ages, i.e. 125 12-year-olds, 92 13-year-olds, 456 14-year-olds?
Yours faithfully,
Martin Green

Mr Green
Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information act. I have recently had a very similar request for information and replied as beneath:
Our recording system in A&E records the most relevant injury at the time of entry, ie, assault, poisoning, abuse, fall etc. The alcohol element in their investigation and recording is not included until later. Therefore to search this information over a 5 year period is difficult, would be prohibitive in terms of FOI and not necessarily meet your requirements. The only category which would be closely linked is the category of 'apparently drunk' which would mean those patients who are in A&E as a result of their behaviour of being drunk, not associated with a fall or assault etc. To provide only this information would therefore provide a unrealistic data set and exclude those patients who have visited A&E due to other alcohol related issues (and which may only appear as a result of their immediate health needs). If you require just this information it can be provided however please be aware of the information I have provided previously.
Please provide specific details if you require information about entry to the hospital other than via the A&E route.
We consider that this request has been fully met. Please be assured that we have carefully considered your request. However, if you are not satisfied with this response you may request an independent internal review by a senior member of the Trust staff who has had no involvement in dealing with your request. We aim to deal with FOI appeals within 20 days of receipt.
Emails should be clearly marked 'Internal Review ' and sent to [email address]
Should you remain dissatisfied after this internal review, you will have a right of complaint to the Information Commissioner. Further information is available at:
