Please confirm that you are requesting the Agency costs / Locum spends for each of the staff categories you have listed for each of the time periods you have requested.

If that is the case I am obliged to inform you that the collection of the data necessary to respond to your enquiry is expected to be in excess of the time which would normally be allocated for this purpose. If that is the case then a charge will be made which will require payment in full prior to the provision of the requested information.

If you wish to proceed with this request as you have described it I will consult with the department and establish the anticipated cost and communicate that to you.

Dear Mr Charlton.

It is unclear at this time what information will be easily accessible in particular as we delve further back. It is entirely possible that in order to achieve the level of detail you apparently require there will be a need to source and identify / evaluate many hundreds of individual invoices to fully address your request with a considerable cost implication.

The key question is your request for figures to be broken down by each staff category for each of the periods you have listed. If that is the case then the task is hugely greater than simply identifying total agency/ locum costs for each period and will involve a significant charge.

When your request is clarified we will be able to consider options and associated costs with our Finance Team

Whilst the Act does not require you to give reasons for the request or the use intended for the data there are occassions when this might be mutually helpful and this may well be one of them.

I will be away from the office now until 9th January. I have not actioned your request pending your clarification ( see second para below ).
