Regarding your request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000: Ref: foi/397/10
"I would like to know how many children were forcibly adopted
(against parental consent and wishes) since 2006"
Please find set out below the information in response to the above
request:
"This information is not kept in this way, the local authority only
reports on the numbers of adoption orders made each year in relation to
children that were in care. In 07/08 there were 21 children in care
adopted and in 08/09 there were 13 children.
Most children in care that are adopted each year are subject to care
proceedings. The court therefore scrutinises the care planning and makes
the final decision about the care plan for the child. In many situations
parents may not agree with the local authority care plan at the outset but
by the time of the final hearing may decide not to oppose that care plan.
There are also a very small number of children that may be relinquished by
their parents into care that are subsequently adopted."
