Dear Ms Moore,

We have now processed your request of June 23 in which you asked how many
children have been forcibly adopted (against parental consent and wishes)
since 2006

Our response following was supplied by the Head of Adoption:
From 1 April 2006 to 31 March 2010, 210 Norfolk looked after children were
adopted through the Courts.
Of this number, 196 had been removed from the care of their birth parents
through the Courts due to neglect or abuse.
Only a very small proportion of these adoption applications were actively
opposed by the birth parents, no actual figures are recorded as there is
no legislation that requires this.

If you are dissatisfied with our response or handling of your request you
have the right of appeal through the Council's internal complaints
procedure by setting out the grounds of your appeal in writing to the
Freedom of Information Officer at:

Freedom of Information & Data Protection Unit
