Dear Ms Moore,
Thank you for your request for information received 08 February 2012 regarding adoption placement breaks down.
The process of searching for the information you required is complete and I can now advise you as follows:
Q1. If an adoption placement breaks down , does the birth parents get automatically get notified, if not, could you explain why ?
A1. If a child is placed with adoptive parents on a placement order, but an adoption order has not (yet) been granted, we would inform the birth parents of the adoption breakdown.
If an adoption order has been granted by the Court, the child becomes the legitimate child of the adoptive parents. We would not automatically inform the birth parents of the adoption breakdown, however that is not to say that we do not inform birth parents, each case would be treated on an individual basis, and a decision made case by case.
If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
If you have any concerns about the manner in which the Council has dealt with your request for information please do not hesitate to contact me. Alternatively you can contact the Access to Information Feedback Officer, Records Management, 46 Clwyd Street, Ruthin, LL15 1HP.
