FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST
Thank you for your request for information which I acknowledge was
received by the County Council on 27/02/2012.

Your request is currently being considered. If the County Council is able
to provide you with the information you have requested, then under the
Freedom of Information Act you are entitled to receive it within 20
working days.

For your information, the FOI Act defines a number of exemptions which may
prevent release of some or all of the information you have requested.  The
County Council will assess your information request in light of the
exemptions.  If exemptions do apply, then the County Council may decide
not to release all, or part, of the information you have requested.  I
shall inform you if this is the case, and advise you of your rights of
appeal.

If the information you request contains reference to a third party then
they may be consulted prior to a decision being taken by the County
Council as to whether to release the information to you.  You will be kept
informed if this is the case.

Any information provided to you would ordinarily be provided to you as a
paper copy, in normal font size.  If you require an alternative format,
e.g. by e-mail, in a different language, or in audio, large print, etc.
then please let me know.

The County Council will not ordinarily charge a fee to provide you with
the information you have requested, provided the cost of dealing with your
request is less than £450. If it appears likely that it would cost more
than this to comply with your request then I will write to you informing
you of this.  We will then work with you to try and bring your request
under this limit and where possible provide you with some of the
information you have requested.  

If you have any queries or should you wish to make a complaint about the
manner in which your request is being dealt with then please do not
hesitate to contact me at the above address in the first instance. Any
complaints will be dealt with under the County Council’s internal review
procedure.

Your request for information, as below, has now been considered.

 If an adoption placement breaks down, do the birth parents automatically
gets notified. If not, could you explain why ?

Our response is as follows:

Warwickshire County Council complies with the statutory requirements in
respect of adoption placement disruptions.

When  a child has been  placed for adoption and an Adoption Order has not
yet been madeand the placement disrupts, Warwickshire have a duty to
inform birth parents of the disruption under the Children Act. This
requirement is reflected in our procedures and practice.

When an Adoption Order has been made consideration is given to the child's
wishes and feelings and understanding. It is not automatic that a birth
parent would be advised, particularly if the young person had been adopted
for a significant length of time.

You have the right to request that the County Council carry out an
internal review if you are not satisfied with the way your request was
dealt with or wish to appeal the decision.  A request for an internal
review should be made in writing and addressed to me at the address above.
 All requests for an internal review will be dealt with under the County
