Thank you for your recent request for information received by this office

Request:

If an adoption placement breaks down, do the birth parents

automatically gets notified. If not, could you explain why?

Answer:

There is no automatic notification process if an adoptive placement breaks
down. The circumstances are reviewed and a case specific decision is made.

In most cases where there is an active arrangement for indirect contact
then the birth parents would be notified as they will need to know why the
communication from the adoptive parents has ceased. Where communication is
not appropriate or where an older child expresses a wish for birth parents
not to be informed then birth parents may not be informed.

We believe that this response answers your various questions in full.

Once again thank you for your request.

 Yours sincerely
