Dear Ms Williams,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 (FOIA) - INFORMATION REQUEST
The City of London (CoL) acknowledges receipt of your request for
information of 24 May 2011.
Public authorities are required to respond to requests within the
statutory timescale of 20 working days beginning from the first working
day after they receive a request. The Act does not always require public
authorities to disclose the information which they hold.
The FOIA applies to the CoL as a local authority, police authority and
port health authority. The CoL is the local and police authority for the
"Square Mile", ie the historic City of London, and not for London as a
whole. Please see the following link to a map on the CoL's website, which
shows the area covered:

Dear Southin, Rebecca,
There is a DISCREPANY between your answer to THIS question and your
answer, (July), to my question of the 28th June.
Your answer to THIS question about the number of families/children
receiving Adopted Child Maintenance Allowance, (official title -
Adoption Allowance), from your Council was NIL.
However in response to my quewstions on 28th June about your
Council's expenditure during the financial year 2010-2011 on
Adoption Allowances you gave me a figure of £4040.
Please can you either give me an explanation for the discrepancy or
amend your answer to this question.
Yours sincerely,
A Williams

Dear Ms Williams,
FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST
Following receipt of your email of 21^st July 2011 pointing a discrepancy
in the data provided on adoption data, the City of London (CoL) responds
as follows.
In our response to your request of 24^th May 2011, at the time we
correctly responded with the data as follows:
Please can you inform me how many families are receiving Adopted Child
Maintenance Allowances from your Council? Nil
How many adopted children are involved? (Some families may have more than
one.) Nil
It was after our response of 22^nd June to your request dated 24^th May
2011 that an assessment was carried out and it was confirmed from this
assessment that there was eligibility for a Child Maintenance Allowance
payment within the year 2010-2011, therefore the ANSWER: £4,040.28
(12/05/10-31/03/11) @ £12.47 per day, is correct. This payment has
been made retrospectively.
Because, uniquely, we are a LA with a very small population, we have to
exercise caution about what information we hold which, if disclosed, could
be linked with identifiable individuals. We can inform you that the figure
is below 5 however we are unable to provide the exact figure as we have a
safeguarding duty, and although you may argue that a child's identity
would not be compromised in this instance, we would have to emphasise
that the City of London `the Square Mile' is a small Local Authority with
a residential population of around 9,700 people, of this figure approx
1200 are within the age bracket of 0-19.
