F.L. Hunter made this Freedom of Information request to University of Birmingham

The request was successful.

From: F.L. Hunter

20 February 2010

Dear University of Birmingham,

I would like a copy of your Undergraduate Admissions Policy, along
with minutes from any meetings over the last three years where
changes to this policy have been discussed.

I would like a copy of the standard letter you send making an offer
(conditional and unconditional) to a prospective student; and a
copy of the standard letter you send rejecting an applicant.

I would like you to confirm the average time taken to respond to
Undergraduate applicants last year, with details of whether this
varies depending on the type of offer made; or whether there is
variation across the different academic areas of the the
University.

Yours faithfully,

F.L. Hunter

Dear FL Hunter

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 a Public Authority is required to provide a copy of the information being requested unless one of the limited exemptions allowed under the Act can be applied.

In your email of 20 February 2010 you are asking for a copy of the University's Undergraduate Admissions policy along with any minutes from meetings over the last three years where changes to this policy have been discussed.

The University's current Code of Practice on Admissions can be found at: http://www.admissions.bham.ac.uk/documen.... The Code of Practice has not undergone any changes in the last three years.

Please see attached a copy of the University's standard conditional and unconditional offer letters. The University does not issue rejection letters as the applicant receives notification from UCAS that the University has made a decision; the decision can be viewed on "Track" via the UCAS website.

It is not possible to provide the average time taken to respond to undergraduate applications last year as the University does not record this information. However the time taken will vary according to the popularity of the subject and whether interviews or auditions are held. Therefore the time can vary between two weeks and six months.

If you are unhappy with the manner in which your request has been dealt with, you may ask for an internal review. A copy of the Complaints and Appeals procedure can be found at: http://www.legalservices.bham.ac.uk/foi/... . If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have a right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.

If you have any queries with regard to this letter, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
