Admissions Policy and Response Letters/Response Time

F.L. Hunter made this Freedom of Information request to University of Leeds

The request was successful.

From: F.L. Hunter

20 February 2010

Dear University of Leeds,

I would like a copy of your Undergraduate Admissions Policy, along
with minutes from any meetings over the last three years where
changes to this policy have been discussed.

I would like a copy of the standard letter you send making an offer
(conditional and unconditional) to a prospective student; and a
copy of the standard letter you send rejecting an applicant.

I would like you to confirm the average time taken to respond to
Undergraduate applicants last year, with details of whether this
varies depending on the type of offer made; or whether there is
variation across the different academic areas of the the
University.

Yours faithfully,

F.L. Hunter

With regard to minutes from meetings, please see attached extracted

Standard Offer letter

Response

Standard letter does not exist, as offer/reject letters are sent out by
individual academic departments. This means there are potentially over 90
versions to be collated. This alongside other data that has been
collected would take over 18 hours to complete. The University is
therefore refusing to provide this information at this moment in time. If
you require samples these can be provided. Alternatively, if you have
just a few specific academic departments in mind please let me know.

Offer decisions

Response

Please see attached spreadsheet, need to recognise that as offer decisions
are devolved the time taken varies and also many schools don't make offers
until applicants have attended an interview, post applicant day, audition,
portfolio inspection etc.

If you have any queries about this email, please contact me.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision,
you should write to Mr D Wardle, The University Complaints Officer, The
University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have
the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have
exhausted the review/complaints procedure provided by the University. The
Information Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner's
Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
