Dear University of Nottingham,
I would like a copy of your Undergraduate Admissions Policy, along
with minutes from any meetings over the last three years where
changes to this policy have been discussed.
I would like a copy of the standard letter you send making an offer
(conditional and unconditional) to a prospective student; and a
copy of the standard letter you send rejecting an applicant.
I would like you to confirm the average time taken to respond to
Undergraduate applicants last year, with details of whether this
varies depending on the type of offer made; or whether there is
variation across the different academic areas of the the
University.
Yours faithfully,
F.L. Hunter

Dear F L Hunter,
I am writing further to your request for information regarding admissions policy. A search of our electronic and paper records has been completed.
I can advise you that our Admissions Policy is publicly available via http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/quality-manu.... There have been no meetings where changes to these policies have been documented in the last three years.
I can advise you that we do hold standard letters that are sent to prospective students making offers, however this is exempt under section 31 (1) (e) of the Freedom of Information Act in that to release this information would be likely to prejudice law enforcement and the operation of the immigration controls. We believe that release of such letters could lead to them being used fraudulently to produce fake copies of our letters to be used by immigrants to gain illegal entry to the United Kingdom. We have applied the public interest test to this and believe that the public interest in release is very low as the letters contain very basic information and that the public interest in maintaining the exemption is high as it is very much in the public interest to prevent illegal immigration. We will therefore not be providing this information. We do not send letters to unsuccessful applicants as they are notified by UCAS.
I can advise you that information on average response times to applications is information that is not held by the University. We do know however that the times do vary greatly from course to course and within each course. For some courses such as Law, we have to wait for LNAT test results and for others such as Medicine the applicant would be invited to interview first. The University aims to contact the applicant within 15 working days of receipt of their form to either chase up missing information, invite them for interview or transmit a decision to them.
If you are unhappy with the way in which your request has been handled and wish to request a review of our response or to make a complaint, please see the attached information sheet.
I hope that this is of help. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any enquiries regarding this email.
Yours sincerely,
Sam Kingston
