Dear London Transport Museum,
Could you please furnish me with details about the end of free
admission to the LT Museum for Freedom Pass users? In particular,
I'd appreciate details about any discussions held regarding this
change and any ideas proposed and/or discussed, such as reduced
admission, admission on certain days or between certain times, and
any other documents that are related to this change.
Your assistance with this FoIR would be appreciated and as such I
thank you in advance.
Yours faithfully,
Paul Illes

Dear Paul Illes
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the end of free admission to London Transport Museum for Freedom Pass holders.
As part of the reopening plans for the Museum in 2007, Transport for London asked the Museum to offer free entry to Freedom Pass holders for the first year of opening. This offer cost the Museum around £150,000 in admission income in its first year of operation but was nevertheless continued through 2008. With a tightening financial situation and the Museum's transition to charitable status in 2008 this was not sustainable in the long term as the loss of income impacted significantly on the ability of the Museum to deliver its charitable benefit. Transport for London was not able to cover the income deficit and so consequently asked the Museum to introduce a concessionary charge for Freedom pass holders from 1 March 2009.
This was discussed and ratified at the Museum's Senior Management meeting on 17 February 2009. The relevant extract is reproduced below.
Performance update
* Free admission to the Museum for Freedom Pass holders will stop on Sunday, 1 March 2009
