Actual ages of police officer retirement by rank

Alan Elsegood made this Freedom of Information request to Home Office

Home Office did not have the information requested.

From: Alan Elsegood

6 November 2008

Dear Sir or Madam,

Replies by the Home Secretary to requests in Parliament for data
relating to the actual ages on retirement (as opposed to the
Compulsory Retirement Age) appear to have been less than frank.
Given that the Home Office and/or the relevant Constabulary) has a
personnel record for every serving officer, the date of any
officer's actual retirement, at the CPA or earlier or later, is a
matter of record. I now request to be advised, for 2006 or any
later year, the age on normal retirement (ie. exclusive of medical
retirement) of police officers in each rank and by gender.

Yours faithfully,

A D Elsegood

Dear Sir/Madam,

In 2007, the Home Office received more than 20,000 letters and e-mails
from the public.

Our aim is to provide clear, accurate and prompt responses to your queries
and we need your help to ensure we are providing a good level of service.
In order to make improvements to the service we provide, we need to know
what you thought about how we answered your correspondence and what you
think we could do better. Please note that we are interested in your views
on how we answered your correspondence, not on the actual Home Office
policy.

We have designed an online survey that will give us the feedback we need.
It should take around 10 minutes to complete and is your chance to
influence how the Home Office communicates with you in the future.

You will receive an e-mail from [2][email address] within the next
24 hours. This will provide you with a unique ID number and password so
that you can complete the survey on-line. You will need to do this by 9
February 2009 so the responses can be collated by FDS International Ltd,
an independent research company, who will forward the results to the Home
Office for action.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Signed

Ian Goswell

Dear Sir or Madam,

How convenient that you don't compile information to answer my
question about the actual retirement ages of senior Police
Officers. Any competent Personnel Dept., in private industry or
commerce would know at what age members of their senior management
had retired, were scheduled to retire etc., because that's part of
succession planning and for pension planning. But not the Home
Office! And not for senior Police Officers! Either it's bull**it or
utter incompetence, or simply an attempt to prevent such
information being analysed as it would reveal matters which this
Government would rather not have exposed to scrutiny. Am I
surprised? Not a bit. Will I complain? And bang my head against
another wall for several months? Not likely! The public sector is a
disgrace and a waste of time. About time for some thinning-out!

Yours sincerely,

Alan Elsegood
